The parliamentary year continues with protests and a debate on old age pension schemes. In the Commons, MPs will vote on new laws and consider motions to appoint an Armed Forces Commissioner and the Hereditary Peers Bill. The Home Secretary faces oral questions from MPs and select committee scrutiny. MPs will also debate the Football Governance Bill and hear from cross-party backbenchers on improving children’s health and attainment.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju defended the government’s actions against Rahul Gandhi’s comments on the army, saying political parties should criticize the government when it does not defend national interests. Opposition leaders will meet to strategize, planning a march against the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, which they call “vote-theft”.

The Oireachtas is leveraging modernization and open data to streamline legislative processes. Its Ulysses platform enables citizens to view real-time information, including bill status and voting results, while automated tools reduce paper usage and lighten workloads. In addition, the platform supports transparency by enabling citizens to comment on bills and provide feedback to Parliament and other legislators. It also enables the Oireachtas to share these comments publicly in an accessible way and make evidence more usable.
